    computer problems

    hey my brother has a  hp computer desktop and when he turns his computer on it doesn't load it gives a message saying /windows /system32/config/system did he get a virus on his comp he tried messing with it by doing a system recovery and now it says <windows root>/system 32 / hal.dll can u help me out

      when he started the computer he said he saw press r to repair so he did but noting happen ?

        Buy a new OS disc and intsall.any other ideas?

          you can ask HP company for the repair CD.This needs some personal infomation of the owner .

          How old's the HP?

          Later model HPs usually have a recovery partition.  Have you tried this?

          Be warned...using the recovery partition will return your computer to its original factory specs and all data you have installed after its original purchase will be lost!

          Don't get a Repair Disc from HP. This will bring your computer back to the state it first turned on (deleting everything).
          I suggest you borrow a Windows CD from someone.
