problem connecting through desktop

im on my laptop right now i use a netgear wireless router to connect on my laptop . i was on my desktop and tropical storm fay i guess made my power flicker on and off and when i try and go on the internet its weird it connects for five seconds and my aim will work and then it will just disconect randomly and then it will say its connected but i cant go on websites or aim. it cant be the router because i also play xbox live which i connect with ethernet thru a port on the same router and it works and ive tried different cables and they dont work so i guess it seems to be something with the computer if anyone can help plz

Have you tried restarting the computer?

Also, is there another computer you can try using the same internet on (I am assuming you are using it now?)
