    Missing Programs / Shortcuts.........
    « on: August 25, 2008, 02:49:10 PM »
Hi, I'm using Acer Aspire 5572AWXMi running on Windows Vista Home Premium, Intel Core Duo Processor T2250 (1.73GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 2MB l2 cache), 120GB HDD, 1GB DDR2.

My laptop seems to have problems. I just discovered recently under My "Accessories", some of the programs are missing, like Notepad, Calculator, etc. And also under "Games", all the games shortcuts are missing. Till now I'm still not sure if any other programs are missing too. I did run some Registry Cleaner programs like "Registry Mechanic, CCleaner, RegCure, etc." and I'm not sure if it caused the problems. I also did tried to System Restore but unable to do so too.

Actually I also do have a Reliability and Performance Report and Event logs which slow down the performance of my laptop but I'm unable to post as the files. Can someone pls tell me if it's require?

Hope someone can help me as this is my work laptop.

    Thanks!

If you have a Windows CD go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...
Have the CD nearby as it will ask for it.
When it finishes remove the CD and re-boot.
    Report back with any progress...

I do not have the Windows CD. Vista comes together with the laptop. Pls advise.

I'm not that familiar with Vista. Did the registry cleaners make a backup before the cleaning was done? If so restore using them.

You might try posting in the Windows forum for advice from those who know more about it then I do. This isn't a malware issue.

I did backup before the cleaning was done but I've deleted the programs since I do not use it. Is it possible to restore those deleted programs with the backup files?

This is a bit confusing. The horrors of double-posting....

If you've removed the programs, you cannot reinstall them with the backup of the registry.
You need to reinstall the programs.
