    If you have Webroot Spysweeper...
    « on: August 25, 2008, 11:19:18 PM »
DO NOT update to its latest version (version 5.8).  I got an email to update, so I did.  BAD NEWS.  Every time i started my computer, it was the only program that worked.  Nothing else would respond.  Couldnt even get task manager up.  Eventually had to do a system restore from safe mode.  Seems like they still have a few bugs to work out? ::)

Are you saying you updated it through an email link?

Is that normal procedure for Webroot?

Well yea, they send you e-mails about updates.  I mean it brings you to their site, then does it from there.  When i system restored, everything is in working order again.  I dont think I should try updating again because the actual spysweeper program on my comp is letting me know about the update too..... but that just led to trouble :(

Found a few things on their Support Site but not sure if it is the same issue. You might ask there. If the latest update is knocking out PC's they need to know.

it is very similar to my problem.  However, I dont have any logitech program or hardware devices installed.  I guess I will e-mail them in the morning and let them know about it.  And im pretty sure that it may be a compatability issue with trendmicro antivirus.  I say this because when I had updated, everything else seemed to load except Trendmicro.  It had its icon in the bottom, and said it was loading, but never completely loaded after waiting 10 minutes.  Then when I proceeded to click on IE (or anything for that matter), no program would respond.

TrendMicro is the worst culprits at not "playing well with others".

I saw a link once from Trend that stated you can't use their products with around 90% of the other security software on the market, so you may be on to the answer.

Honestly I would get rid of Webroot first :)

Not that it's bad, don't think that because it isn't.

Personally, I'd get rid of both.  But hey, if it works for you, stick with it.

I have Webroot Spysweeper & never receive emails from them to update. Do you have auto update enabled? The latest version is 5.8.1 & no probs here.

I just fixed and updated my son's computer to the latest Spysweeper about 5 days ago. Win XP SP3 - no problems. I don't use Spysweeper anymore but I never received an email from them about updating - maybe about upgrading.

...when will you have time to do it over?

for the last two who posted...... do both of you have Vista or XP? and also what is your antivirus?  it may be a problem with interaction alongside trend micro.  It may be that you both didnt ask to recieve emails from them, but I opted to have them sent to me.  Also, i tried updating directly through webroot on my comp, and same problem arose.  Could possibly be just Trend Micro.
