    Computer Boot Issue
    « on: September 02, 2008, 07:55:58 AM »
My computer turned itself off and now it will only boot to the Compaq screen.  When I turn it off then back on it goes immediately to the Compaq screen, when I tried to hit F1 or F10, it acts like there isn't a keyboard attached.  I have a Compaq Presario and I am running Windows XP.

Do you have another keyboard you can swap out with?

I would try another keyboard as we as checking to be sure the one you have is plugged in and not lose.

the 1st keyboard was a wireless USB keyboard, the 2nd one I tried was the original Compaq keyboard.

Is this a laptop or Desktop computer?

If this is a Desktop, does the original keyboard have a round plug that goes in the computer? (that's a PS/2)

Yes this is a Compaq Presario desktop and the keyboard does have the round end.

All right. With the PS/2 keyboard, can you get into the BIOS or what not?
Does the computer recognize it? (caps lock turns on when you turn the computer on?)

I can't get into anything, caps lock or number lock doesn't come on with either keyboard that I have tried so far.

As Spoiler suggested, try another keyboard.

If that doesn't work, I would unplug the computer, open it up, and then remove the CMOS Battery (on the motherboard) for about 20 minutes and then put it back in.
If it still doesn't work, think about replacing it.
