I'm trying to install Windows 98SE on an old Dell computer. 400khz processor, 64mb RAM.
After several restarts, the Windows 98 splash screen appears, then the screen goes black and I'm informed that the computer can't boot because the dmm32.vxd file is missing from the Windows system folder, and that I should restart the machine.
When I restart the machine, I can start in safe mode. When I go to the system file checker to extract the missing file,, the computer will not recognize my CD drive.
Checking the dmm32 folder with Windows explorer, it is indeed empty.
Any suggestions on how to get all the files to install?
