amd athlon is better in terms of performance.

amd turion is better for conserving battery life of laptop.

If you find amd athlon in a laptop, go get it IF battery conservation/life is not concern and you want more power.

    --------

This is concerning dual core X2 models, I expect single core models to be similar situation.

You should be able to  :)

If you want to double check, go to this website:

      http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

Follow the instructions to pick the game of interest and your computer should be analyzed to see if it has the right hardware to run the game successfully (this is good site in general)

Your video card or on board is also important with gaming

of course. the website I listed checks your computer to see that it is capable of running the game in question. It'll also give you some idea how well your computer stands against the minimum requirements too  :)
