Sound does not work from WEB (internet)
    « on: August 30, 2008, 12:50:32 PM »
I have a Dell D820 and when I play a movie from my hard drive the sound works.  When I play something off the Internet, I do not get any sound.  I have checked drivers and volume control and everything appears to be fine.  I do not have the icon on the bottom of my desk top that shows the "Volume Control" even though it is "checked" t be shown. ???

    Thank you in advance

Do you have a on board sound or using a sound card?

How can I tell.  I did not install a sound card and in the Device Manager is says Legacy Audio drivers in hardware and some other video drivers.  No "Yellow" question marks

The browser is Firefox, from a previous post, and the OS, I would guess, is Windows XP.
larbec7, does sound from websites work with Internet Explorer?
And as xavier asked, is it just one site that has issues, or more than one site?
It sounds like a problem with Flash player, try downloading and installing it again from here and see if the problem persists.

It may not be the right answer but I have exactly the same problem on my AMD 1500 winxp, soundmax sound controllers.
My brother told me to uninstal the soundmax from add/remove programs and shut down the computer. When you reboot it windows sees there is no sound and searches for the drivers and re installs them and it should work.
I might add I have done this once and it worked.... but I have got the same problem again and I havent done again yet.
It takes 15 years to become an overnight success & Windows 10 will add another 10 years to it.

Yes, I mentioned it was Firefox and it is Windows XP.  I have tried a lot of different things including deleting drivers and adding them back.  I have gone to numerous sites.

The volume control is not even on the bottom of my desktop and it says it is in the control panel

If you had no trouble in the past? try a system restore

You may have some codecs missing.
Get K-Lite Codec Pack Standard: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
