Haven't read a review for awhile, but seems they were 1/2 then 2/1. Either ought to be fine.  I used Spy Sweeper for a couple of years then got mad at them when they wanted to charge me the same as a new account to renew. Went "free" and haven't looked back - and I don't miss one bit the 2 -  3 minute 'hold' Spy Sweeper put on my machine after boot while it did it's startup thing!
If you don't have time to do it right
...when will you have time to do it over?

        Spy Sweeper is decent.

Spybot is always tried and true.

Ad-Aware seemed to be good until the 2007 version...for some reason, it just felt to me like it lost functionality...

Windows Defender is not bad, but don't rely on it by itself.

Part of the problem is most people don't generally deal with computer problems. So for most they think that close enough is good enough.

        IMHO...
Spybot, and Ad-aware are tools of the past.
I never liked Windows Defender, and I don't think, it catches a lot.
Currently, probably the best tools on the market are Superantispyware, and Malwarebytes.
Not bad: ThreatFire, Spyware Terminator, a-Squared.
