I've noticed that, despite the obvious sticky labeled "Please read this first," people are still posting topics with names like "Please help," not posting their comp specs, not searching for solution before making new topic, or not trying things like safe mode and system restore. Please, please, please try those things first. People are more likely to read your topic if an interesting problem is named in the title. No matter how trivial your problem, post your specs. If solution is not here, Google can sometimes help. Also, try to speak coherently, so your and our time is not wasted by posts asking what someone said or means. And do NOT ask for help with anything that might be illegal. You may know you are not doing anything illegal, but we have no way of knowing that. Does the "Please read this first" sticky need to flash in big, neon letters? The nice, courteous people are here to help, but can only do so if you help them, so help yourself by following the guidelines, and you will enjoy your foruming experience more. Sorry if this repeats much of what is in the sticky, but apparently it isn't obvious enough. Thanks to those of you who do follow the guidelines.

Nice thought of stating this, but I don't think it will do any good....

There is a forum mod you can install which forces the user, when logging in for the first time, to read a certain topic you specify. Might be a good idea...

No matter where you go...even if you do use a mod that directs someone to "read this topic first"...it's the nature of the beast to be impatient...and just start posting away.

You'll see this a lot in every forum.

Along with the above, you'll find the following:

1) Failure to search to see if the topic has already been covered within another thread or forum.
2) Failure to post in the correct forum...c'mon we're all guilty...admit it. If not...oh, well.
3) Check the "stickies". You wouldn't want to start posting if your answer has already been covered in a sticky, now...would you Billy?

Many posters are first time users and thoroughly confused by the forum layout. What's wrong with "Please Help?" May be all that a person knows about his problem

I have a policy that I never even read the posts that have as a subject something uninformative such as "Help" or "I have a problem". I especially don't answer if the subject is in ALL CAPS, has any stupid deliberate misspellings or affectations such as pleaseeeee. Multiple exclamation or question marks don't float my boat either. I really don't like to see over use of emoticons particularly this one

I used misspellings because I figured it would draw in those who use it. If you look at my other posts I have good spelling and grammar. This is a rant. Hence the bad spelling and grammar.

Then I am sorry, I did not realize.

I do not understand the generation of text messagers who use multiple abbreviations in every sentence. I may talk slang but when I write I always am able to form coherent sentences. Must be because my brain is too slow to do so when I am talking. Sometimes, I even come off sounding Shakespearian in my writing.

It's related to the Boy scouts, and you must be involved in Boy Scouts to get in, but it is not Boy Scouts. If you are First Class rank or above, you can get in. If you are over 18, you have to be a leader to get in. But for both, the other scouts in your troop must vote on whether or not the nominees get in. Then you must go through the Ordeal. I can not give details because it is secret, but it has something to do with cheerful service. If you were in the OA as a scout, you can stay in the rest of your life, providing you pay membership fees. There are three ranks: Ordeal, Brotherhood, and Vigil. I am Brotherhood, the second rank. I'm told that Vigil is quite hard to attain. I am a Life Scout, very close to getting my Eagle rank. Does this help?

I recognised dyb dyb dyb/dob dob dob from when I was in the Wolf Cubs aged 10 to 11. They were junior Scouts, and now in the UK they are called Beaver Scouts.

You don't know why you were rolling on the floor laughing? I'm serious, there are torchbearers at every ceremony. They are all at night just so they have an excuse to use torches. All ceremonies have big fires also. The ceremonies are also secret, so I cannot elaborate. As a torchbearer, I can tell you that torches suck as a light source. Plus, the torchbearers always get the candidates lost. It's not intentional, but it does add an extra scare to being led around in the woods in the dark by half-naked guys with torches.
