The monster.com thing is probably just a coincidence, clean out your fans and heatsinks but DON'T use a vacuum.

Compressed air, or just blow it out. If it's really bad and hasn't been cleaned out in years take a pair of tweezers and grab the wads of dust out. Make sure you ground yourself before working in the case by touching a radiator or a faucet because static can fry components.

I think compressed air is much better and much more efficient.....and it's pretty fun.

The computer might be over heating, so don't run many programs at once (which puts pressure on the cpu) so if non of that works, you could see the temperature of your CPU using a program (although they are not brilliantly accurate) so you could try installing a new fan which can be very cheap these days.

I wonder what it sounds like to stand in a wind tunnel?

Is this an example of hyperbole?  (Not to be confused with a hyperbola.)  ;)

If you use compressed air, take the unit outside or in the garage. It is amazing how much dust gets in in a short while.  Almost had to wear a mask the first time I did this. Now I do it regularly.
