front ports not working

The front ports on my compute, i.e. usb, sd, are not recognizing anything that I connect to them.  The ports in the back are working fine.

Yes, they were working fine until recently.

I don't have a lot to give you.  The computer has not been moved.  We had a problem a couple of months ago and we had to run a restore.  The SD drive isn't working at all and the usb ports say that it's an unknown device when I plug in things like ipods.  These ipods work if plugged into the usb port in the back of the computer.  I'm sorry that I can't give you much else.

The computer just shut down on it's own and was not wanting to reboot.  I believe that it was the recovery disks that my husband used to restore it.

After the system was restored, do you know if the operating system was ever updated?

I'm not exactly sure of your question based on my knowledge.  If you are referring to the updates that I get from HP, yes those have been downloaded and installed.  I've also just been working with some computer hope people on another forum to clean up some things caused by malware.

I noticed...the malware may have been the underlying problem....

Once fiished with malware issues...try again, then post your results.

The computer itself is running much better, but still no luck with the ports.

Perhaps, after you update Java from your other topic, try reinstalling the Motherboard Drivers.
