    Desktop will not connect.
    « on: September 06, 2008, 11:14:26 PM »
Home network.  Desktop will not connect.  Windows XP.  Laptops still connect perfectly.  Recently switched from IE to FF.  Worked fabulously.  Uninstalled old programs including AOL and Norton System works.  Downloaded and installed AVG Free.  Then there was no connection.  Removed AVG Free.  Still no connection.  Have disabled all visible firewalls and FF Add-ons.  I feel like it is some thing simple that I am overlooking.  Any Ideas will be appreciated.

Can you get online in Safe Mode With Networking?

Turn on the computer but keep pressing F8.

Sorry about that I posted it under Windows and then remembered that there was a networking forum.  I started it in "safe mode with networking" and it will not connect.

Hmmm.....Can you try a System Restore to before the problem?
(none of your files will be lost but programs installed may have to be reinstalled)

I actually tried that.  Sorry that I didn't say it upfront.  It did not work, so I undid the restore.  It did say after I switched it back that the undoing process could not  be completed.  I am also getting a message that says "application has failed to start because hpzjrd01.dll was not found", but from what I found from a search engine is that that file is some sort of HP image file.

If you go into Device Manager, do you see any Yellow Question or Exclamation marks?

One Exclamation mark.  Next to something called "SAVRT".  It only showed me that after I told it to show hidden devices.

One more thing that is confusing me is that under network connections I have two enabled and connected "Local Area Connections" The first one is connected by a Rhine II Fast Ethernet adapter at 100Mbps and the other by a WAN network driver at 10mbps.  The first one is the only one showing exhange of packets.  I am not sure of how normal this is, but it is troubling me.

If you go to Command Prompt and type 'ping www.google.com' what are the results?

Does the laptop work in another wireless environment or somewhere else with internet?

I am not able to test the laptop on another connection.  I am in a semi-remote location.  We were not able to get DSL until three weeks ago.  I am going to start a new post and ask for the proper settings of the computer that is hardwired and those that are wireless.  As far as Network Options and Internet Options.  Thank you for all of your help.
