I have an older laptop that is built for Windows 95/98.  I need the OS software for Windows 95/98 and I was wondering if ya'll might know where I can get it or if there was another way to install it on there?  It is a Dell Latitude CP

eBay is usually a good place to look.

Yeah, might not even find it there. I wonder where you could get Windows 85 or 98 (legally)

Since it is out-dated can't you get it for free?  Or at a extremely low cost (Like a dollar)?

What will you be using this laptop for?

If the only operating system you can put on it is Windows 95/98...then basically what you have is a "doorstop".

Good luck trying to find software for it...

The recommendations made for you to try ebay, your school, or a local bookstore are your best bet.

A fellow CH member...I don't know his name, but his initials are patio...:)...may refer you to Ubuntu.

I have used it on older PCs and must admit...it may, in fact, be what you're looking for...but don't hold me to it...let's wait and see what patio has to say about it.

Click Here  for all the info you need.

You can order the CD's which is kinda handy to have. It includes a live CD which means it will run right from the CD drive....good for testing purposes.
It also includes a full install CD as well...you can order up to 10 copies.

Or the other option is to DLoad it ...both flavors are available.

Ok I requested a CD but I also download the ISO image, I have burnt that ISO image to a CD and I was wondering can the cd boot without a OS already on the laptop or can I use the os that I already have on there to recongize it, install it, and then delete the os I have on there already?

Follow the instructions on the site for creating a bootable CD with the "live" version...
This means you can run Ubuntu from the CD without affecting what OS you have installed already.
This was explained above but maybe not clearly enough.
Once you decide you like it and all your devices run on it then DLoad the install ISO and follow the same directions to create a bootable CD.
You can then boot to it and install it...this will wipe out your Win98 install when you are ready...

Where do I go to find the bootable Live CD?  I went on their website and all I see is just download the actual software. Can you give me a hyperlink

The .iso you downloaded should be live and will also let you install from the CD. Just boot from the CD. As Patio said, run from the CD for awhile to make sure that all of your hardware is compatible.
If you don't have time to do it right
...when will you have time to do it over?
