    Ctrl-Alt-Del Inop
    « on: September 09, 2008, 10:59:56 AM »
My desktop has recently started doing a peculiar thing.

When Ctrl-Alt-Del is pressed, it comes up with the error box "Ctrl-Alt-Del has been disabled by the Administrator", I'm the administrator and I have no idea on how to disable this function or on how to re-enable it.

    Anyone have an idea?

    IBM PC, Windows XP SP3.

    Thanks

did it start when you loaded SP3?

try to use the Win+L keys to lock your screen.

Also what version of XP are you running?

      Thanks for the reply.

No it actually started earlier than SP3.

      I'm using XP-Pro.

      Anything else?

      Thanks.

Disabled Task Manager is one of the signs of infection.

          Thanks all for the information.

You were correct in thinking that this was caused by an infection, some anti-virus program forcefully installed itself on the computer a while ago.  I removed it but the Ctrl-Alt-Del function was still disabled.  Since then it has been an annoyance, but not at the top of my to-do list.

The program link did the trick, I installed it yesterday when I got home.

          Thanks again.

Glad that the link worked but you may want to follow Broni's advice in reply #4 to make sure that you completely got rid of the malware.
