can't change refresh rate on the monitor

I can get into the settibngs, but the box has been unchecked and it won't let me change the setting to either Generic or P & P.
Any suggestions would be apreciated

No,
If I go into 'Display', click on settings, then on 'Advanced', then click on the Monitor tab at the top, the refresh rate section is faded, and won't allow me to check the box or change the rate.
