I have an HP Pavilion that has been sitting dormant for about 6 years and I have recently fired it up . . . or at least TRIED to fire it up. I tried repeatedly to turn it on, it all powered up, but NOTHING to the monitor. Kept trying until it finally gave me a 'CHECKSUM error' and the option to A:) Go into setup, or B:) Continue booting. I tried both.
In 'setup' I noticed that the system time/date is WAY OFF. (Need new 2032 CMOS battery) ... but, eventually it did boot and gave me the same desktop that I had last seen several years before. Clicking on the various links was successful for awhile.
I had to leave for work, so i thought it might be a good idea to DEFRAG the C:\drive. So, I did. When I left for work, it was 28% completed. When I got back 8 hours later the computer and the monitor were off AND I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET THEM TO REBOOT SINCE.
ANY IDEAS?
