    disk defragmenter
    « on: September 15, 2008, 05:06:05 AM »
i am trying to defragment my computer.when i try to do it i get this message

'disk defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (C:)

    please run Chkdsk /f

i dont know what this is,but i run it and it brought up a page saying

the type of file system is NTFS
    cannot lock current drive

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process.would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? <y/n>

i have tried saying yes but it still goes through the same process.can any 1 help please?

Try selecting Yes and power down the machine...wait 2 minutes and power up.
Chkdsk should now run on start....let it complete before running any tasks.

chkdsk is a built in Windows utility that repairs corrupted files on your HDD...
If the drive has many issues Defrag will not run or complete it's task.
Post alot more info on this machine including drive size and free space available.

Yes that's the info...you have enough free space there which was what i was curious about...
Did you try my suggestion above to get chkdsk to run ? ?
