    A gland in USB cable
    « on: September 16, 2008, 12:12:03 PM »
    Hi
USB cable of some device like printer, scanner and etc has a gland in the end of the cable.
You can not see this part in USB cable of other device, like camera, mp3/4 player, external HDD/ODD, mouse, keyboard and....
What is the task of this part?

    Thanks

The "gland" is a ferrite core introduced into the cable to reduce or eliminate RFI; in other words, to reduce the chance that interference from operation of the USB device will interfere with the operation of a nearby device.

If you don't have time to do it right
...when will you have time to do it over?

Technically it's called a RF Choke mad of ferrite or ferrite beads.
        Look here for good explanation.

In other words, it is something to make people ask about it. :P

like how you have those families housing their elderly members, and they never seem to move- thus everybody that visits asks the question. "Is he dead?"
