    Please suggest me an OS for the following activities with requirements and reasons for selection . Please help.

    1. Web application development

    2. Multimedia development

    3. Database management

    Hello!
    Im exploring LINUX right now so I would suggest to search/use Linux distro that will suit your needs.
    Im using Ubuntu Studio right now because it has many multimedia applications in it.
    But let's wait and see what others have to say.

      Windows XP x64 SP2 (if you have 64-bit AMD processor)

      Windows XP 32-bit would be fine.

      Small summary:
      Linux - free, but not always compatible with quite a lot of software.
      Windows XP - 64-bit not necessary for what you said you would be doing, and is a fast and stable OS
      Windows Vista - Can be fast and reliable depending on the machine's specs.
