You need to try it with a PS2 keyboard...

Yes, you need to actvate your Windows O.S. within 30 days of installing, or it will quit working properly. When it asks if you want to activate Windows, click on the affirmative answer. It will have a drop-down box of several different countries. Highlight you country (U.S.) and it will give you 2-3 numbers to call. You will probably want to call the toll-free number. You need to be in front of your computer. The process is quite simple and shall only take 5-10 minutes.
I always activate by phone, because I've had to reactivate the same computer several times, and if I do it over the internet, it will say I've done it too many times and won't let me proceed.
This is your answer ->call MS. If you have a legal copy the entire process will take less than 3 minutes.
If you don't have time to do it right
...when will you have time to do it over?

hi with regards to drmsucks windows xp has already been activated the day it was installed so why would i need to call ms,
          Because of this:

hi there when i turn on my pc i get my log in logo and enter my password then a message appears saying this copy of windows must be activated with microsoft before you can log on - do you want to activate windows now yes or no
when i press yes a screen says windows is already activated press ok to exit - when i press ok it then logs me out

Also it wont let me start up in safe mode

          any ideas
          many thanks
          juan

The activation process is not perfect - sometimes a Windows update will cause the Windows system to seek a re-activation.

If you think that a re-install is easier than a phone call, or you have reason to believe that you have a virus that you chose not to disclose here, certainly do the format and re-install.
If you don't have time to do it right
...when will you have time to do it over?

If you re-install you will need to re-activate .....
Seems like a drastic step to me rather than a phone call...
