Eternal Death Slayer
« on: September 21, 2008, 06:29:29 PM »
Eternal Death Slayer is a game that I created. Named after a game on one of my favorite movies (Grandma's Boy), Eternal Death Slayer up to this point has been a simple text based game written in notepad and saved with a .bat extension to set it to run in MS-DOS (Command Prompt). I have begun to work on a new game called Eternal Death Slayer 2. This new version will have more of the type of content you would expect from an RPG, with an easier to understand GUI including multicolors and apparent "windows".

Recently when browsing the forums here I found a thread started by a member who is creating a MS-DOS game. His thread was all about his game so I figured I can do the same with my own game. I will update this thread and bump when new updates are made. I hope that contribution from the community here will benefit my game, so please post ideas, concerns or questions here.

well its text based mind you, so its not like walk around and see things dieing but u basically kill thigs and level up and there are quests and stuff. probably some more features that I'll have to work out. it will however be a lot different, yet a lot alike EDS1.

This isn't from EDS2 but I've been working on a version 6 of EDS. Hoping my buddy will join the team to help make this a top BATCH game. EDS V6 is going to be one of the biggest updates. I've done so much on it already and it's only about half done. As of now, file size is over 110KB.

The original, all of EDS and it's updates are BATCH files. I would link them but they were deleted by moderators to save server space. I'll try to hunt them down on my computer. I'll probably have V1-5 uploaded in an hour or so.

Well, this is a almost-complete copy of version 1 if you're interested. it's very basic but if you download it you can start lol. All versions since use the same profile so it can't really hurt. the only problem I see with it is that it says the forests don't work when the first 2 do. Sorry about this crappy post, I'll look for the other versions. The thing is, they're either at school which i might be away until Tuesday, and they are also on my flash drive that got taken away lol. I'll work on it and get back to you.

No, it's coded in batch scripts.

          Thanks for that support guys.

I've got the file done and I've got to finish the ReadMe. Which, usually wouldn't take long but its at school so I'll upload on tuesday.

Ah yes, EDS2. It will be quite a while before that gets anywhere near done. So far I've done little work on it but I'm hoping my buddy will join the team to get things done more quickly.

A little something for my batchcode enthusiast acquaintances and anyone who is interested...

                  http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p292/gamerx365/Compare.jpg

It's not very developed but it's looking good. It's cleaner than EDS and some of the features you would expect to find in an RPG (such as equiping weapons) have been added. It's a complete rebuild started from scratch. I was hoping this would help me build Ideas and make things possible that weren't before, due to messy code. I'm more than likely going to build a small website for it soon as I am planning to use EDS and EDS2 as my senior project that has to be done in the immediate future. If you have any tips for the UI I'll be happy to give them a try but the first beta won't be out for at least a couple days.

As promised, here is the first BETA of Eternal Death Slayer 2. It's still primative, but the purpose of the beta is to get feedback about UI and the gameplay so far. It's all described in the readme included. Enjoy. I hope to hear lots of feedback :)

Really? None of the 4 computers I built it on did that. Did it do it more than once? When (if) more people download it I guess I'll see if this is an error...

I believe your problem might be the directories and file st up. I have fixed this. The only issue might be you manually have to copy ctext.exe to Eternal Death Slayer 2\Files\ in the root of the drive it is being run from. Please try this and post results.

Seriously no one is interested in testing anymore? When I was a frequent user here a few months ago a bunch of us were into batch programs and I had at least 3 people wanting to test EDS. What happened? This is my senior project for school (I need it to graduate this year) so I was kind of hoping for a slightly better reaction. Don't do it if you don't want, I'm just wondering what happened?

Could it possibly be that this isn't in the MS DOS section anymore ? ?

There's a link in the batch programs thread, but I guess that could be the problem. Can it be moved please, or no?

Haven't seen Devcom or Macdad for quite some time, assuming they aren't operating under some alias.
