Quick Time Movie file cannot be moved by WIndow File Manager
    « on: September 24, 2008, 12:39:54 AM »
I am using Window XP, with QuickTime Player & Realplayer installed. Recently, the file manager stops me from moving any of the .mov file - keep poping the message that "the file is being use by other application........" I've closed out both the players, and cleared all the recent history in their menu. I also close/exit any of thme from the start-bar, and there is no player put in the "Start-up" folder. The .mov file can be played but cannot be "move, rename or delete". All existing .mov file in harddisk, USB thumbdrive or external HD have the same problem. But when I use the same USB thumbdrive in another computer, it works alright. Other media files like .gif or .mpg have no such problem.

    Any help please

      Thanks for reply.

This has been done many time.
Additional information: I have similar problem in another Toshiba notebook but once I close out all the players & the thumbnail function & re-log in, it works.

Just that the same not working on the Sony VAIO notebook.

Try moving them in Safe Mode.

          Problem still with me.

it works when I use Window Safe Mode but it is not user friendly at all. Any folk out there who knows the QuickTimes guy that could help me with that.

I guess it must be somethong wrong with one of those overhanging media players in Window.

Now I have Realtime, QuickTimes, WMP, and DivX in th esystem plus a few video editing stuff gifted by the DVD recorder supplier etc.

          Still very annoying.

          Try this.

Go to Start --> RUN --> type msconfig and press Enter
When you get to msconfig, click the Startup Tab and uncheck as many programs as you can (except antivirus software)
Note: Unchecked programs can still be run. This just stops them from unnecessarily running when Windows starts up. For example, Quicktime doesn't need to be run at startup.
          Restart the computer.
