I've had it since it first came out, and I've encountered no errors to speak of.

As long as you won't be a victim of the AMD processor problem, it should be OK to install.

On the other hand, if you won't install it, and you kept Windows updates current, you won't miss much.

So- it's really a matter of preference.

And, I believe that was only with HP machines.  I have an AMD CPU in my custom built system and have had no problems with SP3.

What was the problem?? I have a HP machine with a AMD CPU and Service Pack 3 knocked everything sideways. I dont want to hijack this thread but, why IS it a problem with these machines and CPUs?
11 cheers for binary !

For the record, absolutely not an AMD problem; rather, a problem caused by OEM's (mostly HP) providing an Intel driver in their Window's OS image on AMD based machines. This driver was activated by SP3 causing the "endless restart" problem

Woops, didn't mean to imply it was AMD's fault- in fact I was going to say it was HP's fault- but that was going to be pure speculation.

As far as I understand it, the problem was as simple as a driver "INTELPPM" being installed on those machines. Apparently HP hadn't toggled a setting. everything worked for SP2, but I guess Microsoft fixed something for SP3, causing the problem.

What do you mean by that exactly? I had a lot of software myself, and haven't encountered a problem with SP3.

I didn't think that you did but some people may get the wrong idea.

I LOVE AMD - if it weren't for them, Intel would be bringing out their PII, 1.2 Ghz for $868. We ALL owe AMD a debt of gratitude, whether one uses their stuff or not.

      IMO ;D

Cant exactly remember, only had SP3 installed for about 4-5 hours. I can just remember alot of "Whats wrong with this" and "Why isnt this working" and "Not again", until i uninstalled SP3, then everything worked fine?

Windows XP SP3 is now final and stable. But is only for 32-bit systems right now.
