even system restore is not working.

when I tried to restore it at previous restore point when it was working fine, system restarted and I got error saying

      system restore incomplete

I tried other restore points with failure.

even windows could not be started in safe mode.  when I tried so, I saw number of .sys files enlisted on a black screen seemed like there may be problems on .sys files(not sure though).

      any guess?

I assume, you can work in Normal Mode...

If so, go Start>Run, type in:
      sfc /scannow
      Click OK.
      Have Windows CD handy.

If that doesn't work, try Windows repair: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

This is a great example of reasons to shy away from "eye candy" programs written for Windows...
Most change system files; are written poorly and or hurt system performance.
