    My new yellow mark
    « on: September 27, 2008, 01:53:52 AM »
Hello. I just got this computer its a TPG Brand, with a Celeron 2.8 Ghz, 496 Meg Ram, 80 Gig SATA drive dvd drive and floppy DEsktop.
Ihad some marks in control panel and fixed some of them. I still dont have any sound.
I went to the intel website and got what I thought was the right drivers and loaded them but the sound still comes up not installed.
It was error 18 then I loaded another driver and now it comes up error 10. In hardware device manager it comes up as Multimedia Audio Controller... Uh now its coming up as Code 1 This device is not configured correctly.

Can someone please help me with this. Ive looked and tried to fix it on my own, but Im just not winning.
    Thank you.

In Device Manager, exactly what item has a Yellow Question/Exclamation Mark?

After answering that, download, and install Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
Open it, click Computer, then Summary.
In upper menu, go Report>Quick Report-Summary
Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Don't include anything under line Debug - PCI

Thank you Carbon, The item is under other devices, Exclamation mark is Multimedia Audio Device, which I found out was an Intel.
So I went to the intel site and got  what I thought was the right driver.
Aud-allOS-5.10.0.0PV.RealtekAC97 and installed it but that didnt work. I still have no sound and the exclamation mark in Multimedia Audio Controller?
This is the quick report you asked for.
      Thank you. ImnoGuru.

Thanks for the Everest Report, but you didn't get it quite right... :P

You cut it off at PCI / PnP Audio, not Debug-PCI (it's a bit further down).

      Re-post please. ;)

All right, also, is this a pre-built computer?

If so, what's its manufacturer and model number?

I think it is a prebuilt from TPG.
The sticker on the case says:
Windows XP Home edition TPG and a barcode that says LOAD ACS502227.
I dont know if they mean much. :-\

          Ok, I'll look into it.

In the mean time, what about the driver I found? How did that work?

            This is a Desktop, correct?

If so, can you unplug the computer and then unplug the Sound Card, and then re-plug it, re-plug the computer's power cable, and then try again.

Also, what is the exact error message?

If there isn't a sound card....well let me know. ;)

Now the error code from windows error center is:  0xCOOD11BA.

By the way the Dell is working great now thanks for the help there too.

There is not any cards inside on the motherboard and there are no cut outs been removed from the back at all.
It has 5267 written on the back panel just above and left of the green sticker.

Ok, lets go back to the beginning.

              When did the problem start?

I bought this from my neighbor. So its all new. This is how it came.
I was testing it out this week and found yellow exclamation marks, so I hunted down the drivers.
During the test stage I tried my Sim City CD, but there was no sound.
And that brings me to now.
It seemed like a good build for $100 AU, It has 80 gig SATA drive, dvd burner, 2.8 celeron and 496 RAM. The motherboard is an E210882 intel.

Did he just buy this? It sounds like a pretty old computer.

If he has been using it before you bought it from him, can you ask him if he experienced the same problem?

No he hadnt used it I was there when he had them delivered. They were both boxed fromhis purchaser (whom I dont know). He paid $180 for the two, sold me this one for $100 and kept the other one. He's a retired chap who knows less than me actually. ( maybe he knows more than I give him credit for).
He bench tested it and it seemed ok, but on the bench he didnt have any audio set up.

I just wanted to upgrade from my AMD Athalon to a newer computer (faster), he had this, I had $100.
I seem to remember somewhere the year 2004, which is a massive improvement on my old computer.

Well if all this is too much, then can I get a different sound card and put it in to make it work?

Perhaps, but there are a few more things we haven't tried yet...

Look though the BIOS and see if you can Enable your Sound (or Sound Card - just look for those key words).

Sorry thats a pretty ratty picture of the inside.
Does this tell you anything... like if it has a sound card? or an on board sound ???Chip?
The bios for sound was enable.

I just noticed something different away from this problem, the auto hide bar on the bottom wont come up when I have a screen open. I'll deal with that though at a later date.

Something seems to be up with that picture. :P

                      Hmmmmmmm...

                      I'm almost out of suggestions....

I guess you can try a System Restore to whatever System checkpoint that might have come up in the short time you have had your computer...

I think you should reinstall your motherboard drivers though...

What does a reinstal of motherboard drivers involve? Where do I get them from, Intel? for an e210882 mobo?

System restore took me back to three exclamation marks again, Video controller, ethernet and audio. No sound on media player.

                        Oh well we tried.
I'll try to install the motherboard drivers then. ( maybe I'll do that tommorrow. Its 2 am here)
Thank you for trying to help me carbon Im too tired now. I'll have a fresh look in a couple of hours after some sleep.
                        Thanks again

Go to Intel's site and look for Downloads and Drivers (or something similar).

Look up your Motherboard's model number, download the drivers, and reinstall them.
                        It's getting late here too.....12am....

Heh, I guess we'll both continue in the morning. ;)

Well no luck for me at the intel website. Ive trawelled through drivers and downloads with zips and exe's. Ive tried chipsets and motherboard identifyers.
And sorry to say ( I have no idea what Im doing) no sound.

Hopefully someone will shed some light on this problem soon.

I am just at a loss as why these drivers havent worked.
Does everest give you the details of the audio. and it should be a simple download of those drivers?

course 2... Can I put in a card into a slot for the audio and then use that for the sound?

Borrow an add-on sound card and install it...
If it works buy one...they're not all that expensive.

Have you tried this page:  http://www.pc.tpg.com.au/index.php#audio

There are five downloads available...three of which are for Windows 9X, however...you can try the first and last drivers to see if this fixes the problem.

The sound is onboard...so, either the above drivers can be tried...or we can use the mobo information to find the correct audio controller.

                            Keep us posted...

If the above doesn't work....you can always look here for your motherboard's chipset, as well as the audio driver for that specific motherboard:
