himem.sys is missing

i
have a laptop that someone attempted to install win 98 over win 95 for me. something went wrong and now
windows 95 says a himem.sys is missing.  i've tried reinstalling windows several times yet with no sucess.
any thoughts?

HIMEM.SYS is a memory manager that is needed by Windows to operate.  You may restore it from your Windows 95 installation CD as this link explains:

The article is for Windows 98 (Microsoft does not support Windows 95 any longer).  So you will need to change the directory from Win98 to Win95, i believe.
