    Keyboard question, please...
    « on: October 02, 2008, 06:53:03 PM »
I have an old IBM keyboard that I love.  It fits my ham-fisted hands.  I can get it to work with my Dell computer by configuring it and enabling it, but every time I shut down and re-boot I have to do it all over again if I want to use this keyboard.

What can I do to permanently enable this keyboard?

    Thanks....

      buy another keyboard

His problem is with getting that particular keyboard to stay enabled, not get any keyboard working.

@dnjjohns: what exactly do you mean by "configuring and enabling" the keyboard? Is it USB or PS/2?

It is an IBM PS/2 keyboard.  I have to go into setup every time I boot up and give the instructions to recognize the keyboard and work.  Perhaps if I updated the BIOS?

Have you visited IBM's site for the correct drivers for the keyboard and your OS ? ?
Also if it's resetting each time this may be a sign of a failing CMOS battery...

Make sure all power is removed and you are properly grounded.

Also make sure your saving the settings when you exit the CMOS.

What operating system do you run?

I've used a few IBM keyboards with PS/2 plugs, and never had a problem with Windows 98, 2000, or XP recognizing them.
