    « on: October 03, 2008, 11:01:11 AM »
I have purchased a 6 month video library to view on line. It does not allow download, just viewing. I am unable to view anything. I keep getting error messages. usually just player enountered a problem, or unable to record. I have tried a few things but nothing works. Any advice?

    What media player?

You may just need a good Codec Pack. http://filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/

I recently had issues with streaming media in WMP11 myself.
Are you using IE7 to connect?  Did you install proprietary software (from the media provider)?
Assuming it's WMP11, let's start with settings in the player.  Open WMP, click "now playing" tab, select "more options" from the dropdown menu.  Select "network" from the tabs and be sure "Allow the player to receive multi-cast streams" is checked.  Apply.  Then click 'HTTP' in the list and click 'configure'.  Select 'use proxy settings of the web browser', click Ok.  Apply.  Then click 'RTSP', click 'configure', and select 'Do not use a proxy server'.  Apply.  (If you Are going through a proxy, please let me know--we'll allow for it.)  Check RTSP/UDP.  Apply.
Next click 'File Types' tab, click 'select all', Apply.
Click 'Security'.  Check 'Run script commands and rich media streams when the player is in a web page'.  Apply.
Close the player and see if it runs.

There are lots of ways WMP11 can get broken.  If this doesn't fix it, we'll go for the next thing.

Do you have XP, MCE, Vista--or an older or alternative OS?
What AV / Firewall software are you running?
If you're behind a router, have you allowed the required port(s)?

Sometimes .dlls get broken/deleted/altered or require re-registering.  This can be done with some simple instructions.

What kind of site is it? Did you contact them?

It is a site with a video library. you log on with  a password the nclick on a title and watch and listen to a video. The first time I tried to use it (the same time that I subscribed) it worked fine. I left the site and when I went back it did not work, I went another time from my wifes desktop and it worked but the next time it did not. They have checked on their end with my password and it works for them. they have been trying to helpbut nothing works.

I just read that Real is under scrutiny from the RIAA.
            http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/30/realnetworks-software-lands-in-court/

I'd go to Add/Remove Programs, remove the Download and Record Manager--then re-start the computer.
After that, try re-installing Download and Record Manager and see if it works.

You could go through a proxy in case someone's pulling some shenanigans.

If it works after a reinstall, but only once, I'd try a proxy.

Did you try to reinstall Real Player?
If that doesn't work, uninstall Real Player, and install Real Alternative: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/real_Alternative.htm

Same here, but since we're not the members, we can't really try to play any video.

Just you wait until I find some FF add-on, I'll sneak into your computer. Don't worry, I'll find something catchy :)

I know there is nothing wrong with the site. I can log on fine but simply cannot play video. I tried uninstalling real player and media player as well. I also tried the real alternative no luck. I am wondering if I might have to uninstall and reinstall windows. Does anybody know if that might help?

I'd ask the site for a refund, since you can't use it.
