    AT A LOSS
    « on: October 04, 2008, 08:53:26 PM »
My computer was built at a local computer store.  I have had it for 4 years and never had a problem.  This morning I turn it on and the monitor light continues to blink as if the computer is not turned on.  I shut down that computer and try again.  It comes up to the login screen.  I login and then it freezes.  I reboot again.  This time the monitor power light blinks again.  I'm at a loss.  What has happened?

Do you hear anything when it starts?  Does the system board beep?  Any noise from fans or drives starting up?

Yes.  The fans inside the computer start running like they always do.  But no beeps of any kind sound.

Can you make sure the monitor is plugged in properly.

Also, can you try another monitor or try the monitor on another computer?

I tried my old monitor which was in the garage and I get the same result.  I ensured that it was securely connected in the back of the computer.

Get inside your computer and unplug the Video Card and then replug it.
(Don't forget to ground yourself and unplug the compute before entering)

How do you ground yourself?   What does that mean?

Touch something metal attached to the ground or your computer case (to prevent static)

Try removing the CMOS Battery on the Motherboard for about 20 minutes.
Then put it back in and try again.
