SATA HDD connection replacement

i have a 500GB SATA HDD.
the power connection is in tact but the data connection has snapped off!
is there any way that i can fix it or replace the whole connection front of the HDD?

no
as far as i know, the HDD itself is fine, it's just the port where you connect the SATA data cable connects to the HDD

the black plastic bit that holds the cable in place has snapped off and it wont stay on

That means normally that whole controller piece needs replaced...problem is you need to get one as close to that batch/serial # as you can to get it to work and even then it's a crapshoot.
Try eBay for a dead SATA ...enter your serial# when you search.
