Can't connect to the internet after scanning for virus

The computer uses Windows XP. which had just been reinstalled. when I opened the internet explorer it lead me to the same page with every search. I was able to download Malwarebytes and superantispyware and scan with both. There were about 200 infected files total. The thing is after removing the infected objects the internet wouldn't connect. I looked at the "network and Internet connections" and tried to repair it said it couldn't. This was all on a friends computer. Is there some simple trick to fixing it or do I need to get his computer and start posting logs?

Is he connected via Ethernet Cable or Wireless?

Can you get us the logs via Flash Drive (USB Drive).

Don't forget a HijackThis as well.

I will try and get the logs but there isn't a hijack this. I scanned with the other two because I wanted to see how infected his computed was..after that I couldn't download anything.

Since then he has tried a system restore..the infected files are out again but he can't connect. so he reinstalls the malwarebytes and the SASW and cleans up...
