When you say can't boot, what exactly is the problem? do you get any errors? If there is no CD drive do you have an external one you can plug in?

It won't start? like no power? it's pretty boned if it's a laptop. you could check the cable/power adapter?

If you've got no CD drive/floppy drive then you can't really put an Os on the computer. unless you can get something like BartPE on a USB stick?

can you get into the BIOS? what exactly happens?? any error or anything on the screen? XP will run on 128MB of RAM.

OK the HDD in there at the moment is there an OS loaded onto it? can you go into the BIOS and check the settings there?

Unless you have a CD drive somewhere (internal or external doesn't matter) then you can't install windwos XP. You can take the HDD off and attach it to another computer and install it on there then transfer the HDD back to the laptop.
