invalid product key message

had to reinstall xp after registry crash; get "invalid product key" message when try to activate xp. called ms to verify key; key is valid. how do i fix ???

    Did you use the same disk from which XP was originally installed?

    If you are having validation problems, you need to contact Microsoft again as validation is done only through them, either on the phone or online. There is really nothing anyone can help you with here on this one.

    There is a procedure through which Microsoft will take you to validate your copy of XP.  At the point in the installation of XP when it reaches validation, you can either perform the validation on line, or speak directly with a Microsoft representative. 

    It is an exchange of information.  You give them the product key.  If it is valid, they give you certain information and certain instructions which validates that copy of XP to your computer.
