It is for a laptop.  There are no PCMIA slots,  I know I can use a USB wireless card but I actually want to get the wireless card that is built in fixed.  I did installed the correct driver.  My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv2000 series Model No. is dv2315nr

This Link  seems to suggest there is a PCMCIA slot...

Yeah I see what you mean,  it's where the Media Center Remote is.  I didn't think you could put anything in there by the way it is angled but I guess they do make stuff for it.   But I really want to get the one that is built in fix.    By the way, I appreciate you looking up the specs for the laptop I've been trying to find them

I don't blame you one bit.  It's there -- it should work!

I don't know enough about Vista.  I wonder if doing a repair on Vista would do it?

You might contact tech support to see if this is a known problem for them.  Perhaps they might suggest a fix.

What happens when you load the drivers?  I mean, I know it still doesn't work, but does it indicate it's finding the device as it does the install?

Actually no it doesn't configure the hardware that was something that struck my supprise but when I do it.  It says configuring software and then installs the software.  I've tried everything.  Installing while the switch is to the left and to the right.  Nothing new.  I want to know what I did that one time that made the computer recognize it as a plug and play then I could work with that but I don't know how I did it.   Do you know how much it might cost if I took it to a computer technican (I really don't want to send it to HP, because I don't trust ship and fix, also the laptop I have I am not the orginal owner of.

No, I'm not advising sending in the laptop at this point.  I wonder if their phone support might be of any help?

I will talk to someone over the phone but more than likely it will be someone I can't understand and doesn't know what in the world I/they are talking about.

Yes -- the odds of both of those are too high.  It is my hope that you'll be pleasantly surprised by the latter.

You might care to do this when you have some extra time, so that you can escalate the problem if you're not getting answers.

My "stock" phrase is, "Thank you.  You've been very helpful.  May I speak to your manager?"  (No one can say you said anything bad about anybody.)

I will refrain from making bad jokes about preparing yourself by visiting gas stations, convenience stores, and the local location of a certain donut/ice cream chain.
