Enable / configure my wired network adapter
« on: October 22, 2008, 07:09:56 AM »
I've been using a Linksys wireless adapter for so long I forgot how to connect to my router via wired.  In device manager / network adapters the only device listed is the Linksys USB adapter I'm using now, but I do have the router wired to my factory network adapter. The router shows no LED indicating an ethernet connection on that port.
 What am I missing?
TIA for any help!!!

Did the wired ethernet ever work / is it enabled in the BIOS?

Yes it worked last time it was used. I don't know how to check to see if it is enabled in the BIOS. I know my connection is good because I just installed my PCI ethernet card and I am now online wired @ 100 mbps. But I only have 3 PCI slots and I had to remove my audio card in order to install the PCI ethernet adapter. I have the other 2 slots filled with WinTV tuner card which I need since I don't have a TV, and the other slot is my graphics card. Can you instruct me on how to check the BIOS to see if the factory built in ethernet adapter is enabled?
Thanks very much for your help!!!

What is the make model of your computer?
Why is this thus?  What is the reason for this thusness?

You are the winner!!! I don't remember disableing the factory Intel adapter in my BIOS but that's what my problem was. I have it working fine now and my PCI sound card back in action. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Wow, this site has helped me out so much! Thanks ale52 and CHF!!!!!!!!!  :D

You might be better off putting your system specs in the Computer field in the Forum Profile Informatin settings.  That way dunderheads won't be so confused if they happen to turn off sigs . . . .
