Sorry to be a bit thick, but can I add a new file to a half-full CD-RW without erasing the files which are already there?

You can do so only if you have selected the "Multisession Disk" option when you wrote the files on the CD-RW.

Can you not copy the files, format the CD, and burn it all onto the CD again?
