600w PSU to low for this build?
    « on: October 27, 2008, 03:38:55 PM »
I have a 600w psu with one 6pin cable and no 6+2 or 8 pin cords. I did buy a 6 to dual 6+2 pin outputs converter to appease my video card.

The problem is I have 4 sata HDD's and a dvd burner already that I plan to add to this, and it shows the gtx280 min psu as 550w. Do you think that I will be forced to buy a new PSU? What if I just added 2 of my HDD's?

My build is listed below not including my HDD's or dvd drive I plan to add.

1 Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

        2 Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80569Q9550

3 ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

        4 OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2P10664GK - Retail

5 Athena Power 16" PCI Express 6-Pin to Dual 8(6+2) Pin Linear Extension Power Converter Model

6 EVGA 01G-P3-1282-AR GeForce GTX 280 SuperClocked Edition 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

    Thanks for any advice!

i would purchase at least a 750 watt PSU because that looks too close for comfort.

I wonder, why you need so many HDD's?
