How to use all available hard drive space?
    « on: November 03, 2008, 01:00:11 AM »
Hello, my name is Chris and I'm having trouble with available hard drive space. I have an 80 GB hard drive but according to my computer the hard drive is only 16 GB, I have been told I fix this problem through Computer Management, but have been unable to fix the problem, How can I get the computer to recognize the entire 80 GB's, as this is very frustrating, and I'm about to lose it and try a stick of dynamite. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. BTW I am using a genuine Windows Xp Professional OS.

Exactly how much does it show now?

Also, are there any other partitions on the drive? (For example: C Drive, D Drive, ect...)

The computer only shows 16GB, so I'm missing 62 GB of space, and there are no other partitions on the computer only the C drive.

i think u should run disk defregmenter, one of the computer utility software,
and there are number of software available on the internet viz. pc booster, uniblue powersuit, which optimizes you hard disk space.

            Good Morning,

Run the disk defragment wont solve his problem. The problem this client is having is that he can't find the rest ofthe hard drive space. When you run the disk defragment is runs on the local partition.

There's certainly some wild advice being thrown out here...

Chris, post the info from Disk Management and we'll go from there.
Most times Windows will not allow re-sizing partitions or merging....
A third party program is usually needed.
But until we have more info let's not Fubar your system...

According to my calculator, there is 64 GB missing, not 62 GB.

That is the only fact I am sure of.

It is my opinion that CHKDSK may be able to correct a subtle but very significant error on the disc system.  I think this stands a better chance than downloading any optimizer or running a defrag.

It is also my opinion that ANY of these "corrective" measures might totally destroy any data which is at the moment trapped in these 64 GB.

It would be far better to await a screen shot as requested.

              Regards
              Alan
