Adding Duplicate drive to system and making it RAID
« on: November 01, 2008, 08:28:34 AM »
I have a custom built Intel RAID-enabled Mobo with Q6700 CPU, 4GB RAM and a WD 500GB HDD.  I just purchased duplicate WD 500GB HDD and want to add it to my system and make it RAID 2.  Question - Will I need to reformat first drive and start from scratch installing all programs and data so they will duplicate over to second drive or can I just copy entire drive from 1 to 2 and start from there? I also have a 500GBG external drive that I have already copied entire drive to but did not "ghost" it - just copied from C: to external.  My external drive is a Free Agent Pro that is SATAII capable but can't find a SATA cable that will fit it - the SATA ones I have do not fit correctly.  My system has an external SATA connector but I had to use the USB connector to make it work.
