can't connect to internet with a connection
    « on: November 02, 2008, 04:12:34 AM »

I have a windows XP, AMD 3300, 2 Ghz, and 1 GB RAM.

My computer is not able to connect to the internet from any browser.
In the past IE 7 just  would not work so firefox was my main one.
Then FF suddenly started acting up.  It may have been due to the FF version 3
I could log on internet but after 5 min CPU would be 100% without going anywhere.
Once I terminate process, I can access FF for another 5 min but I did have internet access.

I thought it was a FF issue so I downloaded another browser opera and flock both can't connect.
Then I tried to upgrade FF to version 3.0.3 but I can't connect at all now.
Then I tried to go back to FF version 2.0.1 but I still can't connect.

I have used ping www.yahoo.com and it's sucessful and I get 4 replies
When I try ipconfig /release then I try /renew it can't connect to dchp server of lan2

I believe my problems started with a bad uninstallation of norton 360 which still bring up errors
and still have programs and files left on the computer but can't delete them.

My desktop computer has kapersky antivirus disabled and only connecting thru the modem.
I can't connect to the internet at all on the desktop because no browser works now.

I had deleted norton and symantec files into the recycle bin using the computer search function.

But when it came down to the manually deleting of the registry, I think that's where something went wrong.

Initially searching for norton, I deleted the entire folder and its subsets as well as
deleting 2 times a registry that was under both, thinking that I needed to delete it cause
one affects the other but it wasn't the case.

Upon finishing the disk cleanup, I had rebooted and windows could not start up
it was missing a files from system32 windows or something.

So with that I had to use a windows reboot disk in order to have access to windows again.
Now I'm at the point of trying to set up my wireless network with my netgear.
For some reason, mt wired dlink connects to all my computers fine.
But when I try to connect with my wireless netgear the computer can't talk with the router.

Like the 192.168.1.1 is only available if it is available for like 2 min after that I get no more access
So it's not enough time to download the new firmware and get it set up.
So I'm not sure what to do with this router.

p.s. I wish I had that norton tool to download before my browsers went out.

I was thinking that it was a firefox/firewall problem but ended up being a norton problem.

Sorry it took so long getting back to you, been very busy lately.

So removing Norton solved the problem?

If so, what Antivirus Software do you have now?

Surprisingly even after using the reboot disk there appeared to be some symantec errors and was still blocking me from accessing some programs I wanted to install.

I ended up installing kapersky antivirus supposedly a gaming antivirus program with low memory usage and adjust consumption based on user computer performance.

Now I have noticed that I have 3 windows XP on my computer now from doing this reboot.  Does this take up alot of my memory?  Do I need to reformat my C drive?

I don't think so, not yet at least.

What do you mean you have 3 Windows XP's?

Oh, and Kaspersky is, IMO, the best antivirus program, at least the best I've every used.
