microsft point code gen - virus?

My kid downloaded a program from some site called microsoft point code gen, (totally freaked at him for doing this without me knowing) and now I can't remove it.
If I just click on it to deletet it it says: "in use by another application or user". That's the part that is worrying me as no programs were running.
I looked on the web and this type of program has been reported as contaning trojans.
I just ran a full system scan with up to date AVG antivirus but it didnt detect anything.
Also looked in Add and Remove programs and it doesn't even detect it.

1. Does AVG catch everything?
2. Is it a virus?
3. If so how do I get rid of this?

Any help appreciated.

Not sure exactly what site he got it from as he is still in denial. Probably via a YouTube link, from what I found out it's supposed be a program to generate free points for you on xbox live.

When I was trying to find out what it was I saw links to there and also links to people on the web reporting viruses in the software.

I eventually got rid of the program by using "moveonboot", however it still worries me that I may not have propery removed any code out of the registry or wherever.

Any thoughts?
