    Problems showing in Device Manager
    « on: November 14, 2008, 05:46:43 AM »
    Hello

I have recently installed Win XP Pro (I have Home installed on another drive in my tower), and notice the following in Device Manager:

    http://www11.brinkster.com/stevehigham/audio.html

It seems that some audio drivers are missing, whatever that means. I don't use music applications or hardware at all and cannot be sure what the issues refer to.

Could they relate to the monitor?

How can I correct this, please?

    Thanks.

    Steve

      Hello

You need to install sound drivers.
      Your computer specs please....

      Thanks

        Thanks for that Shynnie

Can I not use the same drivers as I use on my other drive for Win XP Home. Aren't they in the drivers.cab folder under the Windows root?

Alternatively, I'll try to get the computer specs and post back - probably later today/tonight.

        Thanks again, Shynnie

Sometimes XP will pick up on missing drivers when you use Windows update (should check this monthly anyway)

1, Goto Internet Explorer, click the tools menu and select Windows Update.

2, If you have a sound card installed then this unknown audio device might the onboard device still active in the BIOS

This is what you need drivers for. It's for onboard sound which means the drivers will be on the Driver CD that came with your motherboard...
If you don't have it travel to ASUS' site and enter your model # and got to the support/download section for your MBoard drivers.
Might as well grab the chipset drivers as well as these should have been re-installed with the new XP also...chipset drivers go FIRST, then sound and network and all others.
They probably have a downloadable version of your Owners Manual...grab that too.

              Hello

Many thanks to you both for your help.

              I've downloaded this:

SoundMAX Audio Driver version 5.12.01.3663 WHQL but not installed it yet. I thought I'd better check here that this corresponds to this: VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller.

I'm not sure where to locate, on the ASUS site, the chipset drivers. Do you mean the drivers for the CPU?

              Thanks again.

You can go ahead and try that driver...it won't harm anything if it's the wrong one...
A quick search at ASUS yielded no results on your board...how old is it ? ?
