    Computer wont boot
    « on: November 15, 2008, 04:38:57 AM »
I've had a problem with vista and tried to reinstall my XP system, during install i had the message that some files were missing.
Now my computer wont boot, it starts to but during the 1st page ie as it lists and checks the hardware, I get a 0078 code in the bottom right hand corner.
I have tried resetting the cmos but that doesn't seem to work, have borrowed a tower from a friend and its so slow!!
    Need help please!

Try replugging all your drive cables and reseating all your cards. If you've got some compressed air then give the inside a clean while your in there. Take the battery out of the BIOS while you do this.
    11 cheers for binary !

How exactly did you do this ? ?
Vista normally will block an XP install so describe in detail what method you used.

My Vista wouldn't activate and then wouldn't allow me to log in so maybe this is why it let me install XP?
I just put my installation disk in and installed from this, it was going fine untill the missing files problem.
I will try the taking out all the cards etc and see if that works

      Thanks for the help

Only when you run XP setup from within windows. No way can Vista block something when it isn't loaded, IE: when booting from XP CD.
