spybot won't open

I am running windows XP on a dell vostro 200.  I have avg 8.0 and spybot search and destroy.  When I click on my spybot icon it won't open.  Likewise if I go to "programs" and try to open...Nothing.  Also whenever I use google and I click on a site, I am redirected.  Shall I just uninstall spybot and then reinstall?  My avg seems to work, but it shows no infections.
