    Hard Drive Problem
    « on: December 05, 2008, 09:05:57 PM »
My e-machine stopped working.  My brother gave me a Dell.  I took my hard drive from the e-machine and added it to the Dell.  The problem is I can't access most of the files of the users that were password protected.  I can access the files of the two user accounts that were not password protected.  There are pictures and documents that I want to access.  Please help.

when you say password protected, do you mean encrypted (IE, shown in green?)

When I go to my computer and I explore the emachine hard drive, the files that it wont let me open are dimmer than the other ones.  It never asks for a password.  I don't know if they are encripted.  All I know is that the user accounts that didn't have a password (while it was in the emachine) are fine.  I can browse those files easily.

      XP or Vista?

Is it possible for you to provide a screenshot?

That link helped, kinda.  I had to take ownership of the folders and files that I couldn't open.
I need to spend more time on it.
          Everything is done in safe-mode.
Thanks for the help so far.
