    Drive smart failed
    « on: December 10, 2008, 10:00:54 PM »
Hi. I tried installing windows xp pro on my computer today and ran through some problems along the way. I was right about done formatting the drive when the power went out. I restarted the whole process again but this time I got a S.M.A.R.T. failure right on boot. Drive in no longer recognized and it seems inoperable. Its about 1 year old and make is Western Digital 160gb. Any help appreciated.

you can probably disable S.M.A.R.T (Self Monitoring And Reporting Tool) within your CMOS, but it sounds like the drive could be kaput.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.
