This is weird. Crucial memory scanner thinks my board has 4 dimm slots. I have 3. I wonder if I flashed the wrong bios model.

How many slots do you see ? ?
Crucial is not always 100% correct considering there are 1000's of MBoards out there.

Then that's how many you have.
Are you trying to find out how much RAM you can have in there and what type ? ?
There are other methods besides Crucial's site...such as the MBoard manuf. site...

No kidding duh man.. I know that.   I find it weird that cruical thinks I have 4 dimm slots and three are used. Some of the other similar models have 4 dimms on them.

DFI's website is horrible I can't look up anything. And Itox website is hard to find stuff on too.

It says that my Bios is out of date. But when I try to download the update the connection times out. That's computers for you. You make some progress and then you run into another wall.

Apparently Phoenix Bios company must have an update for this bios.

BIOS agent is a rogue co. that just wants your money...normally 97% of machines are fine with the BIOS they are shipped with.
You still haven't explained what the dilemna here is....
An incorrect BIOS flash has created many expensive boat anchors.

Ok. My motherboard which seems to be made by Itox model number cb60-bx rev b1 says that it can do 768mb (256x3) ram. It says in the manual that for that it has to be ecc registered and be x72.

I bought both high density and low density ram just to be safe from this company:

              http://www.starmicro.net/detail.aspx?ID=640

              http://www.starmicro.net/detail.aspx?ID=280

Whats with the number 8 after the 72 on their website? Anyway the ram sticks don't work at all.

I have 256mb x 3 pc133 ecc registered in there right now and it only reads 384mb of it. All the ram sticks are good.

I don't know what to do. I'm thinking I'm going to have to get some special kind of ram for this old board.

I did find this in this article:

                http://www.itox.com/pages/support/mbd/cb60bx/CB61B.PDF

The system board is equipped with three 168-pin DIMM (Dual
In-line Memory Module) sockets that suppor t x64/x72 PC
SDRAM DIMM, 3.3V. PC SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic Random
Access Memory) uses a fast memory interface technology that
includes using the clock on the chip to synchronize with the CPU
clock so that the timing of the memory chips and the timing of the
CPU are synchronized. This saves time during transmission of data,
                subsequently increasing system performance.
The system board also supports the ECC (Error Checking and
Correction) function. To use this function, you must install DIMM
that supports parity. That is, DIMM that typically has 9 memory
chips per side. This kind of module has 8 standard memory chips
and a parity chip. DIMM with no parity has 8 standard memory
chips only. Refer to chapter 1 (System Memory section) for
detailed specification of the memory supported by the system
                board.

Where do I find pc100 ecc registered that parity enabled?

So does anyone know where to buy 3 256mb pc100 ecc registered parity compatible ram?

I'm not looking for non-parity I'm looking for parity compliant.

                    Honestly, given the following:

                    1) Nowadays, only server motherboards require ECC RAM.
                    2) PC100 SDRAM is a lot more expensive than current DDR2/DDR3 RAM3
                    3) Registered, ECC, and other fancy flavors o RAM are more expensive.

You may want to consider, instead of upgrading RAM for little gain, to save up for a newer machine.

Yes, I know that sounds like a cop-out, but again, is it really worth the hassle to buy registered ECC RAM for an old PC?  If it doesn't work, then what?  RMA and get different DIMMs.  If it does work, then...it's not like you'll gain much from it.  You can get 4 GB of DDR2 for the price of 256 PC133 ECC SDRAM.  You could get 1-2 GB of DDR3 for a little more than that as well.
