The most common Quad-core CPU that is better for you is the Q6600 which is the same speed, 2.4Ghz but with 4 times the cache of your current CPU...

Not that it's my job to question upgrading, but I would seriously look at whether that money could be better spent somewhere else.
CPU speed matters nothing these days.
A 1.7Ghz Core 2 Duo would beat a 3.2Ghz P4 Extreme to a pulp.
If you are looking for a performance increase...I suggest RAM or a graphics card upgrade. (Yes a graphics card)
I say this because a better graphics system can increase 2d speeds too (folder windows and everything)
But RAM would be the best option if you can.
