There are plenty of .mod files types: http://filext.com/file-extension/mod
    Which one is yours?

Its a video from my camera. I don't know how else to describe it. When I try to play the file all that comes out is the sound.

      Is it JVC camera?
First, try to play the file with VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
If it plays OK, then you may have some WMP codecs missing.
      Install K-Lite Codec Pack: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

This is, what I found out.
          1. Simply renaming .mod files to .mpg files, should let you play them.
          2. Alternatively, you can download free JVC Everio Utility: http://wareseeker.com/Video/everio-utility-1.1.zip/295020, which will do that, and more fot you.

          Quote
This is a program that will do the following:

          - Rename the *.MOD files to *.MPG. This is required in order to play the files
in most media players and to author a DVD with most programs.

          - Copy files to a location on your computer that you choose.

          - Fix the 16:9 aspect ratio problem. If you set your Everio to record in 16:9,
it will record properly, but it writes the files out incorrectly. Most video
players will think it is 4:3 and play it squished. This utility fixes that
problem so that you can play them back at the correct 16:9 aspect ratio and
author a DVD properly using programs other than the one provided in the Everio
box. NOTE: some versions of Windows Media Player will still ignore the fix :-P

Yes and it didn't work there either.
I just read that you said to install the codex's if it did work so i did that wrong. I thought you had said if they didn't work. My bad.

VLC played the file but no sound or video was produced.

Uninstalled and reinstalled the K-lite package and now the sound is back but still no video.

I see, what you mean. Apparently, the program is not free anymore.
Unless you want to pay for it, did you try renaming those files?
                  It should work.
Also, your camcorder should have come with Cyberlink program.

                  I found also this: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/bbs/t132937.html

The new version V1.99beta of my tool sdcopy.exe is available here:
                  http://zyvid.com/smf/index.php?acti...ic=280.0;id=153
You can use it to convert the mod files from the Panasonic or JVC tapeless camcorders to standard mpeg2 files.
The new version now sorts the thumbnail icons by the file date and lets its icon blink in the taskbar in case the copy operation is finished(helpful when running in background).
